In an interview on October 16, coach Diego Giustozzi affirmed that the team is changing in a positive direction. The squad also includes many new faces, including some very young ones.
“The team did not achieve the goal of qualifying for the World Cup, so there needs to be changes, as well as new promising players to improve the team’s appearance. I choose players not based on age or playing experience.
The players I have chosen for this training camp are all key players at the club and have performed very well in the national championship as well as in other tournaments recently,” said coach Diego Giustozzi.
According to coach Diego Giustozzi, the team's weakness is not in tactics but in finishing and the ability to handle situations of each individual in the squad.
“I think the tactics of the Vietnamese team are operating on par or better than those of the opponents we have faced. In fact, if the individuals handled things better, we could have had better results.
Therefore, the most important issue that I want to improve for the Vietnamese players is the tactics for each individual, for each position on the field. If each person plays better, the overall tactics of the whole team will also operate better," coach Diego Giustozzi emphasized.
The Argentine strategist also added that during this training period, he and his coaching staff will continue to focus on improving the scoring efficiency of the Vietnamese futsal team.
He said: “In the recent Asian futsal finals, the team only scored an average of 1 goal per match. That number is too small to help us go further. Therefore, I, as well as the coaching staff and the players, will try to improve this point before entering the upcoming Southeast Asian futsal tournament.”
According to coach Diego Giustozzi, futsal teams in Southeast Asia have all made progress, so the competition is higher than before.
“I understand the opponents of the Vietnamese team in the Southeast region. They have all improved, not only Thailand but also Malaysia and Indonesia can be considered concerns. However, the Vietnamese players have also changed and improved. I believe the team will achieve the set goals, first of all, overcoming the challenge in the group stage,” he said.
According to the plan, the Vietnamese futsal team will practice at the District 8 futsal club gymnasium until October 25. After that, the team will move to Thailand to train before the 2024 Southeast Asian futsal championship.
The 2024 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship will take place from November 2 to November 10 in Thailand.
