The decision was made based on the high consensus between VFF and coach Mai Duc Chung, based on practical requirements for stability, inheritance and continuity in coaching work.
This is an important period for the Vietnamese women's team, in the context of the 2026 Asian Women's Championship taking place in early March 2026, and is also a tournament that is considered an achievement to consider the Asian representative for the 2027 Women's World Cup.
After completing the task at the 33rd SEA Games, the Vietnam women's team needs to maintain stability in terms of expertise, playing style and team management to ensure the best preparation for the continental arena.
According to the plan, in January 2026, the women's team will gather and train in China, expected to play two friendly matches. After that, the team will go to Australia - the host country of the 2026 Asian Women's Football Finals for phase two training, with a friendly match before officially entering the tournament.

With a short preparation period, VFF rates coach Mai Duc Chung as the most suitable factor to continue leading the team. This experienced coach is highly appreciated for his deep understanding of Vietnamese women's football, along with important contributions over the years.
Mr. Nguyen Sy Hien - Chairman of the National Coaching Council said that coach Mai Duc Chung's continued position as head coach of the national women's team at the present time is a reasonable choice, ensuring inheritance of strength, tactics and development orientation.
"This is an experienced coach, with prestige in the women's team. The players have a good understanding of the head coach's philosophy and training methods, while he himself also clearly understands the abilities, mentality and characteristics of each player, said Mr. Nguyen Sy Hien.
For his part, coach Mai Duc Chung expressed his honor to continue to receive the trust of VFF. He affirmed that he will work with the coaching staff and players to focus on preparation, determined to compete with the highest performance in the 2026 Asian Women's Football finals.
VFF hopes that, with stability on the coaching bench and a thorough preparation process, the Vietnamese women's football team will continue to promote the spirit of solidarity, courage and aspiration to rise up, thereby affirming the position of Vietnamese women's football in the continental arena.
