Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam - Deputy Director of Hanoi Social Insurance (VSS) said: Currently, popular anti-detoxification drugs such as Tacrolimus, Cyclosporin, Mycophenolate, Everolimus, Rituximab, Bortezomib or Prednisolone are all on the list of health insurance-paid drugs.
For organ transplant patients, the use of anti-plant waste medicine is a continuous, lifelong treatment. In 2024, Hanoi Social Insurance paid 4,630 organ transplant patients with a total cost of 628.2 billion VND, of which the cost of anti-plant waste medicine was 580.1 billion VND (accounting for 87.3% of the cost), an average monthly expenditure of over 10.5 million VND/patient, an average of 125.2 million VND/patient/year.
The latest data released in December 2025 shows that in the first 9 months of 2025 alone, the city's Social Insurance paid 4,984 organ transplant patients, an increase of 354 patients compared to 2024 with the figure of 539 billion VND spent, including 471 billion VND on anti-plant waste, an average of 11.9 million VND/ benh nhan per month and 9 months spent an average of 97.8 million VND/ benh nhan.
It can be said that the payment of the Health Insurance Fund plays a very important role for organ transplant patients, helping to significantly reduce the cost burden and ensure that the post-transplant treatment process is maintained stably and long-term - Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam emphasized.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam, in principle, anti- placeplant drugs after organ transplants are paid by the Health Insurance Fund, like other treatment drugs when drugs are on the List issued in Circular No. 20/2022/TT-BYT and fully meet the payment conditions specified in Circular No. 37/2024/TT-BYT.
This means that for drugs in the list issued in Circular No. 20/2022/TT-BYT, the hospital conducts procurement bidding in accordance with regulations, sends documents and encodes the drug list to the Health Insurance Assessment Information system in a timely manner before prescribing to the patient, the drug must be prescribed in accordance with the patient's medical condition, within the scope of professional activities of the medical examination and treatment facility; the prescribing doctor must follow the correct instructions and the medical examination and treatment facility must follow the correct process and request payment.
The anti-diseptic indication is considered appropriate when the indication is included in the instructions for the use of drugs or generic drugs licensed by the Ministry of Health; or recorded in the latest version of the National Pharmacopoeia; or in the diagnosis and treatment instructions issued by the Ministry of Health.
The Social Insurance Agency pays according to the hospital's winning bid price and the patient's benefit level according to the provisions of the law on health insurance.
