In the third-place match of the 2025 Southeast Asian Women's Football Championship, the Vietnam women's team beat the Thai women's team 3-1.
This is the second victory of coach Mai Duc Chung and his team against Thailand in this tournament. In the group stage, the Vietnam women's team beat Thailand 1-0.
After the match, coach Futoshi Ikeda of the Thai women's team congratulated the victory of the Vietnamese women's team. He admitted that his team still has many areas to improve.
He said: "First of all, I would like to congratulate the victory of the Vietnam women's team. The Thai women's team has many young players, we still need time to accumulate experience, as well as overcome the shortcomings".
Ikeda also shared about the preparation process for the Thai women's team, with the important goal of the 2025 SEA Games, a tournament that Thailand will host at the end of this year.
He said: "We still have time to prepare for the SEA Games. Selecting the best players and enhancing the potential of the team is extremely important.
Currently, not only are Southeast Asian teams improving, but women's football around the world is also developing rapidly. We need to strengthen the team as much as possible.
According to the plan, after returning home, Mr. Futoshi Ikeda will have a meeting with the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) with the goal of developing the women's team, towards the 33rd SEA Games.
As the host country, Thailand aims to win all 4 gold medals in men's and women's football and men's and women's futsal.
For women's football, the Thai women's team will compete fiercely with the Vietnamese, Myanmar and Philippine women's teams.
The last time Thai women's football won a gold medal at the 2013 SEA Games was in 2013. In the 4 recent SEA Games, the gold medals all belonged to the Vietnam women's team.
