On the morning of May 16, at Viettel football stadium (Yen Xuan commune, Hanoi), the opening ceremony of the 5th Journalist and Public Opinion Newspaper Football Cup took place to celebrate the National Press Festival 2026, and also towards the 30th anniversary of the first issue of Journalist and Public Opinion Newspaper (July 10, 1996 - July 10, 2026).
The Journalist and Public Opinion Football Cup continues to be organized as a meaningful activity for journalists, contributing to extending the success of previous seasons, while affirming the spirit of solidarity, exchange and development of the Vietnamese press. Not only is it a sports playground, the tournament also creates opportunities for reporters, editors, and journalists from many press agencies to meet, strengthen connections and spread the dynamic and enthusiastic image of journalists in the new era.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Duc Loi - former member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association said that Vietnamese revolutionary journalism for many years has always played an important role on the ideological and cultural front, making positive contributions to the country's development.
In addition to professional tasks, exchange and sports activities between press agencies are also of practical significance in caring for spiritual life and strengthening the bond between professionals.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Loi highly appreciated the tournament being maintained continuously throughout 5 seasons, becoming increasingly professional in organization and having a wide influence in the press community. He believes that this year's season with the participation of 16 teams from press agencies, media and businesses will bring many attractive matches, rich in emotions and fair-play spirit.
Representatives of the Organizing Committee said that this year's tournament is not only a place for sports competition but also contributes to creating a bridge between press agencies and the accompanying business community, thereby building an open, united and more professional exchange environment in press and media activities.
Participating in this year's season are 16 teams from press agencies, media and businesses including: Nhan Dan Newspaper, Vietnam News Agency, Vietnam Television, Voice of Vietnam, Lao Dong Newspaper, VnExpress Newspaper, Dan Tri Newspaper, Nong Thon Ngay Nay/Dan Viet Electronic Newspaper, Nong Nghiep va Moi Truong Newspaper, Vietnam Law Newspaper, Dai Doan Ket Newspaper, Hanoi Radio and Television Newspaper, Doi song va Phap luat Magazine, Nha bao va Cong luan Newspaper, Vietnam National Industry - Energy Group and Nam Dinh Bridge and Road Management and Construction Joint Stock Company.
According to the match results on the morning of May 16, the round of 16 has selected 8 teams to win tickets to the quarterfinals including: Lao Dong Newspaper, VnExpress Newspaper, Nhan Dan Newspaper, VTV, Vietnam Law Newspaper, Agriculture and Environment Newspaper, VOV and NTNN/Dan Viet Newspaper.
According to the plan, 4 quarter-final matches will take place in the afternoon of May 16 to select the best names to enter the semi-finals taking place on the morning of May 17. With what happened on the opening day, this year's season is expected to continue to bring many attractive matches and beautiful moments of journalists on the football field.
