Professional mark
Nguyen Huy Hoang has been a prominent face of the Vietnamese swimming team for many years in the medium and long distances. In 2025, he will continue to affirm his position through a series of remarkable achievements in the continental and world arenas.
In the qualifying round of the 1,500m freestyle event of the World Championship, Huy Hoang ranked 14/21 with a result of 15 minutes and 19 seconds 39. Although not as good as the achievements at the 19th ASIAD (15 minutes 04 seconds 06) or the 2024 Paris Olympics (15 minutes 18 seconds 63), this figure still reflects his stability in the event that requires great physical strength and endurance.
The highlight this year for Huy Hoang is the first Asian gold medal in his career in the 1,500m freestyle event at the 2025 Asian Championship.
He finished with a time of 15 minutes and 15.01 seconds, which was also his best finish in a year. Previously, his highest achievement at the continental level only stopped at the 2018 ASIAD silver medal.
In addition, the tournament in India also witnessed Huy Hoang winning an additional gold medal in the 800m freestyle event and a silver medal in the 400m freestyle event, thereby helping Vietnamese swimming for the first time have male athletes win many gold medals at the Asian playground.
In his career, Huy Hoang has conquered many major tournaments such as the 2020 Olympics, the 2024 Olympics, the World Championship, the ASIAD and the SEA Games.
Last year, at the Paris Olympics, he competed in the 800m and 1,500m freestyle events, reaching 8 minutes 08 seconds 39 and 15 minutes 18 seconds 63 respectively. After nearly a decade of professional competition, Huy Hoang is currently one of the most experienced players in the Vietnamese swimming team, and the only male swimmer to reach high international milestones such as the Asian gold medal.
Many coaches and experts consider Huy Hoang to be a highly determined athlete who always maintains perseverance in competition. Despite facing periods of declining performance, he still maintained his concentration to overcome difficulties.

The "golden mine" of the Vietnamese swimming team at the 33rd SEA Games
After the world tournament, Nguyen Huy Hoang and the Vietnamese swimming team will enter a key training phase towards the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand in December.
Since the beginning of November, he has been training in China under a program exclusively for key players. The process helps him maintain endurance, improve his speed and achieve the best physical condition for his strengths.
At the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia 2 years ago, Huy Hoang won 3 gold medals and 1 bronze medal, although the initial goal was the gold medal.
Therefore, the 33rd SEA Games is considered an opportunity for him to regain his highest limit in the regional arena. However, he also said that he was oriented to reduce the pressure of achievements to avoid repeating psychological mistakes.
The coaches are supporting him to stay more comfortable, focusing on his expertise instead of focusing on the goal of winning medals.
Looking back at his career from the 29 2017 SEA Games when winning the 1,500m freestyle gold medal at the age of 17, Nguyen Huy Hoang has always maintained stability in regional and international competitions. The 30, 31 and 32 SEA Games all saw him continuously winning gold medals.
With only one month left before leaving for Thailand, the swimmer born in 2000 is in the final preparation stage to aim for the goal of maintaining her achievements and contributing to raising the level of Vietnamese swimming at the Games.
