The 2026 Southeast Asian Youth Chess Championship is being held in Singapore.
On August 14 local time, the player of 16 groups finished the standard event after completing 9 games according to the Swiss system.
The Vietnamese youth chess team won 10 gold medals, respectively from the first place results of chess players Nguyen Quoc Hy (U20 men), Tran Ngoc Minh Duy (U18 men), Nguyen Manh Duc (U16 men), Phan Le Hoang Quan (U12 men), Bui Duc Tien (U10 men), Nguyen Tran Gia Vuong (U8 men) and Nguyen Hong Nhung (U20 women), Nguyen Minh Chi (U14 women), Duong Ngoc Nga (U12 women), Nguyen Vu Bao Chau (U10 women).
In these results, 2 chess players Nguyen Quoc Hy and Nguyen Hong Nhung competed with good form, winning a gold medal in their group.
Quoc Hy has a total of 6.5 points in 9 games and leads the U20 men's group while Hong Nhung has 7 points after 9 games in the U20 women's group.
This year's tournament will continue until August 17. After the standard content, chess players continue to compete in rapid chess and blitz chess.
The Vietnamese chess team sent 177 chess players to participate in this tournament.
In addition to the chess players participating in the event for the 2026 Southeast Asian Youth Championship, some chess players also participate in expanded groups according to programs conducted by the Organizing Committee.
Among these, grandmaster Le Tuan Minh appeared in the Premier table. In the standard chess results, Le Tuan Minh just won the runner-up position with 6.5 points after 9 games.
With the 2026 Southeast Asian Youth Championship competition, the Organizing Committee will compete for players in 16 groups including U6 men, women; U8 men, women; U10 men, women; U12 men, women; U14 men, women; U16 men, women; U18 men, women and U20 men, women.
