The Vietnamese chess team has 177 players participating in the events in the tournament. For the Southeast Asian Youth Championship, players will compete in rapid chess, blitz chess and standard chess in the U10, U12, U14, U16, U18, U10 groups for men and women.
Standard chess competes first with 9 games according to the Swiss system. Each player has 90 minutes of competition plus 30 seconds per game (calculated from the first game).
Rapid chess competes for 25 minutes while lightning chess competes for 5 minutes.
For age group events, the Organizing Committee includes the Premier category for grandmasters. Grandmaster Le Tuan Minh of Vietnamese chess competes in this category.
