Lai Ly Huynh failed in the rapid chess event in the 2025 Asian Intellectual Sports Championship, so he focused all hopes on competing for the highest position in chess.
Today, the chess event of the chess world tournament will compete in 9 tournaments according to the Swiss system. Lai Ly Huynh and Vietnamese players including Nguyen Minh Nhat Quang, Ton That Nhat Tan, Ha Van Tien, Dao Van Trong and Phan Nguyen Cong Minh will participate in this event.
A day before, Vietnamese chess fans witnessed Lai Ly Huynh's unfortunate failure in rapid chess by only reaching 13 points, ranking 4th.
Lai Li Huang could not overcome the group of Chinese players including Manh Phon Due, Vuong Nhat Bac and Doan Thang to win the medal. The Vietnamese chess player should have been in the leading group, however, Lai Ly Huynh lost to Man Phon Due in game 8 (final) so she ran out of chances to compete for a medal.
In game 9, Lai Li Huynh beat his teammate Nguyen Minh Nhat Quang but only maintained his 4th place overall.
Ranked first in the rapid chess event was player Manh Phon Due (China) with 15 points. Vuong Nhat Bac and Doan Thang ranked second and third respectively with the same 14 points.
Lai Li Huynh just won the standard flag gold medal at the 2025 World Chess Championship held in China in September.
