The 7th round of the men's group of the 2025 World Chess Championship ended on the afternoon of September 25. Lai Ly Huynh was the one who won among the two Vietnamese players competing.
Lai Ly Huynh imposed an effective game against chess player Chong Heung Ming (Trang Hoang Minh) of the Philippines team, taking the lead to a 2-0 victory.
In round 6 before that, Lai Li Huang drew with the Chinese chess idol Mengfasting. On the temporary rankings after round 7, Manh Phon Due held the top spot while Lai Ly Huynh immediately after getting 12 points.
In round 7, player Nguyen Thanh Bao drew 1-1 with Mingjian Li (Le Minh Kien) of the US team. Thus, Thanh Bao has every chance to enter the individual final of the standard chess tournament even though there is still 1 round left.
In round 7, Manh Phon Due (China) drew 1-1 with Le Chi Duc (Malaysia) while player Doan Thang (China) beat Cat Chan Y (Taiwan, China) 2-0.
On the evening of September 25, the players competed in round 8 to decide the ticket to the final match. Lai Li Huynh will meet Le Chi Duc (Malaysia) while Manh Phon Due will compete with Doan Thang (China). Khuyen Nguyen Thanh Bao will meet Trang Hoang Minh.
According to the regulations, male players compete in a standard flag in 8 rounds to select the 2 best players to participate in the gold medal final. The remaining players will compete in round 9 of the final classification.
According to the schedule, the male chess player will stop playing standard chess to compete in rapid chess on September 26. On September 27, the standard flag will be held again, after which the Organizing Committee will award the champion.
Currently, the Vietnamese national chess team still has a chance to enter the men's individual final and calculate the points for the men's team medal.
