On June 12, Ms. Vu Thi Hien Hanh - Vice Chairwoman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee chaired a working session with the working delegation of the Television Channel for ethnic minorities (VTV5), Vietnam Television Station on coordinating the organization of the first National Women's Football Tournament for ethnic minorities in communes and wards.
According to a representative of VTV5, the tournament in recent years held in some localities has attracted a large number of people and fans, creating a positive spread on social media platforms.

On that basis, VTV5 plans to raise the scale of the tournament to the national level with the participation of women's football teams from the Northwest, Northeast and Central - Central Highlands regions.
Assessing the venue, VTV5 said that Lao Cai is a locality with a large number of ethnic minorities living, rich in cultural identity, and also possesses a strongly developed women's football movement. These are favorable conditions to organize a national-scale playground for women in ethnic minority areas.

In addition to its sporting meaning, the tournament is also expected to become a bridge to promote the image of the land, people, cultural identity and tourism potential of Lao Cai to a large audience nationwide.
Speaking at the working session, Ms. Vu Thi Hien Hanh affirmed that women's football has developed sustainably in many localities in the province, especially in ethnic minority areas.
Hosting the tournament not only creates motivation to promote the movement of physical training and sports but also opens up opportunities to introduce unique cultural values and local tourism products.

Based on reviewing the actual conditions, Lao Cai province agreed on the policy of coordinating the organization of the tournament. Provincial leaders requested VTV5 to soon complete the plan, organization scenario and have specific written proposals for departments, branches, and localities to coordinate effectively.
Immediately after the working session, the VTV5 delegation will survey some locations in the province to assess facilities conditions, serving the preparation work. The tournament is expected to be held at the end of August 2026.
