On the morning of August 13, regarding the disciplinary action against the Vietnam U21 women's volleyball team and the cancellation of results because an athlete was not eligible to participate in the tournament, the Vietnam Volleyball Federation (VFV) has officially announced.
VFV emphasized: "VFV affirms that it has complied with the regulations of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) on athlete registration procedures as well as submitting complete athlete documents to FIVB before the tournament.
This dossier has been reviewed and approved by FIVB, allowing athletes to compete. However, the FIVB's decision on athletes who are not eligible to compete was based on the request to supplement documents and some conditions for athletes on August 12.
These are conditions that have not been previously regulated. Therefore, VFV is conducting an official complaint according to the FIVB process, and at the same time coordinating with competent authorities of Vietnam to clarify and protect the rights of athletes as well as the reputation of Vietnamese volleyball.
VFV hopes that media agencies and the public will receive objective information and support the Vietnam U21 women's volleyball team".
Previously, on the night of August 12 (Vietnam time), FIVB issued an official announcement. One of the contents of the document affirmed: "The investigation concluded that the player mentioned did not meet the conditions under Article 12.2 of the 2023 FIVB Disciplinary Regulations.
Therefore, according to Article 13.5.2 of the law and Article 14.4 of the Disciplinary Regulations, the FIVB Disciplinary Subcommittee has issued a decision to cancel the matches of the Vietnam U21 Volleyball Team that the player participated in and expel that player from the event, effective immediately".
This is the first time the Vietnamese youth women's volleyball team has participated in the World Championship at its level. Previously, the young Vietnamese players had finished 5th when participating in the 2024 U20 Asian Championship to officially qualify for the 2025 U21 Women's Volleyball World Cup.
The coaching staff of the Vietnam U21 Women's Volleyball Team did not share much from Indonesia. However, coach Nguyen Trong Linh affirmed that this loss significantly affected the psychology of young Vietnamese players.
