The Thai team will have the opening match of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers with a fateful opponent, the Vietnamese team, of Coach Park Hang-seo at home. This will be an opportunity for the Thais to reclaim their 0-1 loss at the 2019 King's Cup, while also proving their No. 1 position in Southeast Asia.
The Thai Football Association (FAT) has agreed to spend a huge amount of money to invite Japan coach Akira Nishino to take the lead. FAT also announced that it will call up all the best players playing abroad, in order to serve the World Cup goal.
Notably, the three names playing in Japan's J.League 1 are midfielder Chanathip Songkrasin (Consadolo Sapporo) and Theerathon Bunmathan and Thitiphan Puangjan.
"My goal is to help Thailand top Group G. I want to win every match in this group, regardless of who my opponent is," Chanathip Songkrasin told Bangkok Post about the goal in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
The midfielder known as Messi Jay added: It doesnt matter who the DTQG coach is. We will have to learn from him, learn to adapt to the coach's tactics".
After debuting for the Thai national team, coach Nishino affirmed that he will shape the squad and playing style based on the trio of players playing in Japan.
In the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, Chanathip's Thailand in Group G, with the participation of fateful opponents including Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and the UAE. Thailand's opening match against Vietnam will take place on September 5.
