Controversial ticket prices for national volleyball tournaments

HOÀI VIỆT |

This year's National Volleyball Tournament applies new ticket prices for matches, aiming to improve the quality of the organization and create a habit of buying tickets for the audience. However, this price still causes a lot of controversy.

Are ticket prices enough to elevate the tournament?

The Organizing Committee of the 2nd phase of the 2025 National Volleyball Championship has announced the issuance of 2 denominations of 100,000 VND/ticket and 200,000 VND/ticket at the gate. Tickets for the group stage matches are 100,000 VND and for the final round are 200,000 VND.

The host Ninh Binh representative explained that the qualifying round will organize 4 matches each day, so each ticket buyer will be able to see all. This is similar to the final round. When the two prices were announced, many conflicting opinions were raised on volleyball forums on social networks.

Some opinions affirmed that this is a high price. Some opinions say that if they are not sold at such a price, the Organizing Committee will find it difficult to have enough revenue to cover the costs. There are concerns that if ticket prices are not suitable, the stands may be deserted.

According to regulations, the local Organizing Committee decides on the issuance of tickets. In many previous national volleyball championships, the men's and women's events were held separately in 2 rounds. Each round takes place in 2 localities. Therefore, some places open open freely but some local organizers maintain the view that tickets must be sold so that the audience wants to come and watch with the highest cheer spirit.

In 2024, the Ha Tinh Local Organizing Committee issued a common ticket for 1 ticket at a rate of VND50,000/ticket, but in phase 2, Lao Cai locality organized a women's event to sell tickets at the levels of VND150,000 and VND200,000. In the first phase of this year, Dong Anh Stadium (Hanoi) sold tickets for 50,000 VND/ticket.

"We saw that Vietnamese volleyball fans were "uilling" to buy tickets to the stadium. Here we say slowing, meaning that fans are gradually forming the habit of buying tickets to cheer for sports. This is very necessary for volleyball tournaments - a representative of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation shared.

Athletes in Vietnam usually have 2,000 to 3,000 seats. The national volleyball championship has been shortened to 8 men's teams and 8 women's teams to improve their expertise. Therefore, fans watched many exciting matches.

Which model is suitable?

The Vietnam National Volleyball Championship has not yet organized a competition on the home and away models because the volleyball teams do not have standard courts. The national championship must depend on local facilities. Therefore, the decision on the ticket sales model is decided by the locality to be suitable. In the first phase of this year's tournament, the Organizing Committee of Dong Anh Stadium (Hanoi) has implemented a separate policy of selling tickets for the entire match to the audience if they want to buy them. That is, in addition to buying tickets to watch each match or each day, fans can buy all tickets for each day.

The tournament took place for 10 days in Dong Anh (Hanoi). Therefore, the Organizing Committee is ready to sell package tickets (10 days) to fans. The full price of the 10-day competition package is 500,000 VND.

After each tournament, each locality collects statistics on revenue from ticket sales. This is the figure that will be reported to the Department of Finance. Online ticket sales are being targeted by some localities. However, volleyball fans still have the habit of going to the counter to directly own paper tickets.
