Traffic congestion occurs at many intersections in Ho Chi Minh City, especially during rush hour, making it difficult for people to move. Faced with this situation, Ho Chi Minh City has recently applied the option of narrowing sidewalks to open more continuous right turns, helping vehicles travel more conveniently.
For example, at the Kha Van Can - Road No. 2 intersection (Thu Duc Ward), the opening of the right turn by reducing the sidewalk has been completed. People living around this area expressed their agreement with this approach, saying that opening a separate turn helps vehicles move safely, avoids prolonged congestion, and reduces the risk of traffic accidents.

Mr. Dang Phuoc Cuong - a local resident - shared that the right turn lane is clearly effective at this intersection.
"Previously, this area often had many accidents because trucks and container trucks were traveling in the same lane as motorbikes. Many students are prone to colliding with large vehicles when turning around. Now there is a separate right turn lane to separate traffic flows, traffic is much more airy and safer," Mr. Cuong added.
Sharing the same view, Mr. Pham Van Lam commented that the right turn lane helps reduce congestion significantly, but there is still a situation where some vehicles stand blocking the turn, causing traffic obstruction.
"I hope people raise public awareness to make things more convenient to travel," said Mr. Lam.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, streamlining islands and sidewalks to open a turn is a regular solution to adjust traffic flows in accordance with the actual situation. However, each deployed point has undergone careful surveys and designs to ensure safety for pedestrians and people with disabilities.
The Department also considers adjusting the lane and arranging appropriate turning points to increase traffic efficiency. Previously, Ho Chi Minh City has deployed many continuous right turns, along with lighting systems and signs allowing vehicles to turn right at appropriate intersections to reduce congestion and contribute to improving traffic conditions.
The expansion of right turns according to this model promises to be replicated at many other traffic jams in the area, helping people travel more easily and safely in the coming time.
