Quoc Duy returns, Vietnam men's volleyball leaves its mark in the opening match

HOÀNG HUÊ |

Despite losing the opening match of the 2025 Asian Club Championship, the Vietnam men's volleyball team still left positive professional impressions.

Today (May 12), the Vietnam men's volleyball team (called Sport Center 3) suffered a 1-3 defeat to Al Muharraq (Bahrain) in the opening match of the 2025 Asian Club Championship. This is a result that many people predicted before Dinh Van Duy and his teammates had a strong force with good technique.

After the match, Jacob Link from Al Muharraq said: "From yesterday's match to today, we have had challenging matches. The Vietnamese players competed at a fast pace and in many good coordination phases. It's great to play here. I would like to thank everyone who has supported me and our team."

According to the sharing of the star on the Al Muharraq side, although he lost in the opening match, the performance of coach Tran Dinh Tien's team received many compliments. The Vietnamese players showed many positive aspects in their playing style.

Entering this match, coach Tran Dinh Tien boldly experimented with the lineup in set 1. He used Quoc Duy, Duy Tuyen, Dinh Van Duy... from the beginning. After that, players Quoc Du, Duong Van Tien... were given the opportunity.

Sport Center 3 entered the match confidently and played an open game against Al Muharraq. This caused many surprises for the opponent. Against a team that was superior in terms of strength, especially in terms of physique, Sport Center 3 played well with the ability to distribute virtual balls of setter Dinh Van Duy.

The first step was also well implemented by Vietnamese players, creating opportunities to deploy dangerous and effective attack situations.

The representative of Vietnam does not play on individuals. Instead, every player on the field knows how to shine. In addition to Dinh Van Duy, Duy Tuyen, Ngoc Thuan, Quoc Duy... have repeatedly tricked the opponent to block well to score points.

In particular, with opposite Nguyen Van Quoc Duy, after a year of returning to the national team, the 2001-born hitter has quickly integrated into the playing style of the whole team. He also became an impressive scorer of Sport Center 3 with powerful smashes with his left hand as well as a big serve.

However, Al Muharraq with the impressive height of stars such as Alexandre Ferreira (2m02), Jacob Link (1m97) has gradually regained his scoring position. The bright spot on the Bahrain representative side is the excellence of Swedish foreign player Jacob Link. From there, Al Muhharraq maintained the game and won the final score with a score of 3-1.

Above all, in the recent match, the spirit of fighting without giving up is something worth noting in Mr. Tran Dinh Tien's students. Dinh Van Duy and his teammates only accepted defeat with close scores in all 3 sets.

This loss significantly narrowed Sport Center 3's chances of advancing to the 2025 Asian Club Championship. However, the whole team is still very determined before the final match of the group stage, facing Al Rayyan (Qatar) on May 13.
