Reserve in the opening match
On the night of October 5 (Vietnam time), Kuzeyboru club began its journey in the Turkish Women's Volleyball National Championship 2024-2025 season. The team's opponent, Aydin B.Sehir, is not highly rated.
The Kuzeyboru girls did not start well in the first two sets. Their inconsistent play and defense made the whole team confused. Luckily, in the final moments, coach Mehmet Bedestenlioglu's team was able to rally their spirits and win with the same score of 25-21.
In set 3, the difference in class was clearly shown by Kuzeyboru. They quickly took the lead to gain the advantage over their opponents. Aydin B.Sehir could not show much and accepted defeat 17-25 in this set.
In the end, Kuzeyboru had an easy opening match when they defeated Aydin B.Sehir with a score of 3-0. In this match, the main striker Tran Thi Thanh Thuy was not put on the field yet. She was kept on the bench by coach Mehmet Bedestenlioglu and did not use a single minute.
Waiting for a chance to play
Although she has not yet played in the first match in the new shirt, with her outstanding height of 1m93, Thanh Thuy promises to be a "trump card" of Kuzeyboru in the upcoming matches.
In the 2024-2025 Turkish Women's Volleyball Championship, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy is one of two Asian players named in the tournament as a foreign player. While Vietnam's main striker plays for the Kuzeyboru GSK women's team, player Yuan Xinyue (China) plays for the VakifBank team.
If she is allowed to play, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy will become the first Vietnamese player to compete in Europe in an official professional volleyball tournament. Therefore, Vietnamese volleyball fans are waiting for the opportunity to come to the 27-year-old player.
Before arriving in Türkiye, many concerns were raised about Thanh Thuy as she was recovering from an injury. However, according to the images shared by the European team, as soon as she arrived at the team's headquarters, the captain of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team was always in good shape and actively practicing.
Notably, in the Ahmet Goksu friendly women's volleyball tournament before the new season, Thanh Thuy was on the field in set 3 of 2 matches, scoring 1 point, contributing to Kuzeyboru winning the runner-up position. This is considered the premise for the main striker from Binh Duong to gain the trust of the head coach.
By joining Kuzeyboru, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy will have the opportunity to compete and train with the world's top athletes. The professional environment, training intensity and highly specialized matches will help the 27-year-old striker significantly improve her personal skills.
Along with the development opportunities, Thanh Thuy will also have to face many challenges and pressures in the coming time. Because the success or failure of "4T" (nickname of Tran Thi Thanh Thuy) in Türkiye will affect the general image of Vietnamese volleyball in the eyes of international friends.
Therefore, from now on, Vietnam's main striker will have to find a way to compete with talented colleagues for a main position in the 2024-2025 season.
In the next match, Kuzeyboru will visit VakifBank at 18:00 on October 12 (Vietnam time). Thanh Thuy is expected to play in the first match.
