Captain of the U22 Vietnam team Nguyen Van Truong was diagnosed with possible knee injuries, including damage to the torso and lumbar ligament, after an incident in the friendly match against U22 Korea.
The incident occurred in the 77th minute, when Van Truong collided with a player from the U22 Korean team. Because the team had used all the players' substitutions, U22 Vietnam was forced to play with one less player for the rest of the match. Immediately after leaving the field on a stretcher, the player was tied to his knee by the doctor and taken directly to the hospital for a thorough check-up.
The coaching staff and doctors of the national team hope that Van Truong's injury will not be serious, so that he can promptly return to accompany U22 Vietnam at the 33rd SEA Games and the U23 Asian finals. Currently, Van Truong will return home and rest for a few days before gathering again in Ba Ria ward (HCMC) to prepare for a trip to Thailand at the end of November.
U22 Vietnam will start the 33rd SEA Games journey with the match against U22 Laos on December 4 in Songkhla, then meet U22 Malaysia in the final round of the group stage on December 11. The goal of Van Truong's team and individual is to win the SEA Games gold medal.
Against Van Truong, overseas Vietnamese midfielder Tran Thanh Trung was also injured in the V.League and left open the possibility of participating in the SEA Games. After recovering, he returned to play but was not called up to the 2025 Panda Cup.
