On the morning of December 16, the Pencak Silat event at the 33rd SEA Games witnessed a series of controversial situations related to refereeing, causing Vietnamese fighters to continuously stop in frustration.
In the men's 60kg weight class, boxer Vu Van Kien was awarded a loss after the referee determined that he had committed a foul and hit him down. This decision caused a lot of controversy because the situation happened very quickly and was not really clear.
Before it could end, the Vietnamese team continued to have problems in the 65kg weight class with the case of Nguyen Minh Triet when facing boxer Muhammad Izzul Irfan Marzuki from Malaysia.

In a fierce approach, the opponent threw a punch straight into the Vietnamese fighter's neck. The smash caused Minh Triet to immediately fall to the floor, hugging his neck in pain and unable to continue playing. His condition was so serious that he vomited right on the court, forcing the referee to stop the match for the medical team to intervene urgently.

After consulting and reviewing the situation, the referee team declared the victory to the Malaysian fighter. It is worth mentioning that while the procedures for ending the match were being carried out, Minh Triet was still lying on the floor, unable to stand up on his own, making many people indignant at the handling of the board.
