The Vietnamese table tennis team is in the process of selecting forces and shaping the framework to aim for the goal of winning a gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games.

Vietnam's top players participated in the 2025 Nhan Dan Newspaper National Table Tennis Championship in Da Nang at the end of May 2025. This is an important tournament of the year, gathering all the top tennis players in the country to participate.

Immediately after this tournament, the coaching staff of the Vietnamese table tennis team basically completed the preliminary list of the most outstanding faces to submit to the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports, preparing to establish the national team in June.

According to the plan proposed by the Vietnam Table Tennis Federation to the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports, the Vietnamese table tennis team will have a tight schedule before participating in the 33rd SEA Games. If the plan is approved, the whole team will go to Indonesia to participate in the team mixed-use table tennis tournament at the end of June.

In July, August and September, the team also proposed to participate in other international tournaments. In November, the team plans to go to China for training to prepare for the 33rd SEA Games.

Talking to Lao Dong, Mr. Vu Van Trung - head coach of the Vietnamese table tennis team said: "At the national championship held in Da Nang in May, the selection work was strictly implemented. The coaching staff and experts have selected 4 coaches, 12 male athletes and 10 female athletes for the preliminary list.

This is a combination of veteran tennis players who have achieved high results in the international arena, and promising young faces".

In the list, key players such as Nguyen Duc Tuan, Nguyen Anh Tu, Dinh Anh Hoang continue to play a core role thanks to their stable performance and extensive international experience. In addition, many young faces that have attracted attention in the national championship have also been included in the list of additional training and testing for the main force.

"We have high expectations for young athletes such as Nguyen Dang Hiep, Nguyen Hoang Lam (Army), Do Le Van Chi (Lam Dong), Nguyen Nhu Quynh (HCMC) ... These are players with qualities and have shown remarkable progress in recent times.

If in the upcoming training period, they can demonstrate their outstanding abilities when competing with seniors, the coaching staff will consider and propose to add them to the official list to the SEA Games", Mr. Trung shared.

According to the plan, the team will have many training sessions and international competitions to improve their skills. Being constantly rubbed will help athletes get used to the pressure of competition as well as accumulate experience, especially in the context of Southeast Asian countries investing heavily in young forces.

It is expected that after the team is officially established, the international friendly training and competition plan will be implemented from July towards the 33rd SEA Games taking place in December 2025.

At the 32nd SEA Games, Vietnamese table tennis won 1 gold medal, 1 silver medal, 4 bronze medals. The goal of the Vietnamese table tennis team at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand is to strive to win 1 to 2 gold medals.

With the combination of experience and youth, the Vietnamese table tennis team hopes to continue to win gold medals as well as make significant progress at the upcoming 33rd SEA Games.
