This year, athlete Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc will not participate in the 2026 Asian Walking Championships because she is in the process of recovering from surgery.
The Vietnamese athletics team did not send any athletes to participate in this tournament. Local units also did not register athletes to participate in the tournament.
The 2026 Asian Walking Championships will compete in Nomi city (Japan) on March 15. At this time, the competition distance of the tournament has been standardized to be 21.097km instead of 20km as before.
The 21.097km walking event will be in the ASIAD 20 competition program in September in Japan.
Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc once won a ticket to the 2012 Olympics from the results of the 2012 Asian Walking Championship. At SEA Games 33, the female athlete participated in the competition but suffered an injury during the competition, so she did not finish and retired.
After SEA Games 33, Thanh Phuc underwent surgery to completely heal her injury. Currently, she has returned to training after surgery and is actively accumulating physical strength.
The Asian Walking Championship is part of the professional program that considers achievements to calculate Olympic standards (in the years when the Olympics will be held). Vietnamese athletics once had Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc and Nguyen Thanh Ngung achieve Olympic spots when their achievements exceeded standards at this tournament.
