Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc underwent surgery to completely treat her injury immediately after SEA Games 33.

Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc underwent surgery to treat her right knee cartilage injury on December 31, 2025 in Da Nang. She was awake on January 1 and said her health is gradually stabilizing.

The female athlete is a member of the Vietnamese Athletics Team competing in the 20km walking event of the SEA Games 33 in Thailand. Unfortunately, she did not complete the competition and did not win a medal as expected by the coaching staff.

During the competition at SEA Games 33, Thanh Phuc said that he had relapsed from injury, so he accepted not being able to achieve the highest result.

At SEA Games 33, Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc is the oldest athlete in the list of 50 Vietnamese athletics players. She is 35 years old. However, Thanh Phuc is still the national champion of the women's 20km walk event so far.

She won the championship of the event at the 2025 National Athletics Championships, and was also Thanh Phuc's 19th national gold medal in her career.

After the surgery, Thanh Phuc will need time to recover. It is expected that she will need 4 to 5 months to regain her best health. Thanh Phuc once shared at the 2025 National Athletics Championships that her goal is to continue to compete to achieve the highest results at the 2026 National Sports Games in Ho Chi Minh City.

In her career, Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc once won an official spot in the women's 20km walking competition at the 2012 Olympics in England.
