Thanh Phuc's joy was doubled when his younger brother Nguyen Thanh Ngung won the gold medal in men's 20km walk at the tournament. Thanh Ngung finished first with a time of 1 hour 30 minutes 37 seconds.

The competition day on August 11 recorded another broken national record. The Hanoi relay team (Phung Thi Hue/Nguyen Thi Kim Ngoc/Hoang Thi Minh Hanh/Nguyen Thi Hang) won the gold medal in the women's 4x200m event with a time of 1 hour 34 minutes 51 seconds and also broke the national record.
