This was a result that was expected in advance, after the Vietnamese team advanced 3 places to reach 116th place in the world and 21st place in Asia on the FIFA rankings in November 2024, where the rankings of the teams will be the basis for seeding for the draw to divide the groups in the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup.
In group 1 with the Vietnamese team are the following teams: Syria, Thailand, Tajikistan, Lebanon and India.
In Southeast Asia, except for Indonesia, which won a direct ticket to the 2027 Asian Cup finals without having to participate in the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup thanks to its achievement in reaching the third qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup, the other teams participating in the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup include: Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Brunei and Timor Leste.
Of which, Malaysia and the Philippines are in seed group number 2, Singapore and Myanmar are in seed group number 3, Brunei, Laos and Timor Leste are in seed group number 4.
