Previously, being only ranked 3rd in the group stage caused coach Trinh Huu Thanh and his team to enter the third-place match for the entire tournament. Notably, U16 Vietnam futsal once defeated U16 Myanmar futsal with a score of 5-2 in the group stage, but this scenario did not repeat when the two teams rematched.
In the first half, the young Vietnamese players faced many psychological difficulties, played somewhat in sync and did not achieve their best form. According to the coaching staff, this stemmed from regret when the team missed the opportunity to participate in the final. Despite controlling the game and creating many dangerous opportunities, U16 Vietnam futsal lacked accuracy in decisive finishing phases.
Taking advantage of that, U16 Myanmar futsal organized an effective counter-attack and scored the opening goal in the first half. At the beginning of the second half, the representative from Myanmar continued to exploit the gaps in the defense system of U16 Vietnam futsal to score the 2nd goal, also from a counter-attack situation.
It was not until the 30th minute that U16 futsal Vietnam had a goal to narrow the score thanks to Bui Gia Bao. In the final minutes of the match, coach Trinh Huu Thanh decided to use power-play tactics to increase the pressure. However, against the opponent's tight defense, opportunities passed one after another and U16 futsal Vietnam could not find an equalizer, accepting a 1-2 defeat.
According to the plan, on December 30, the Vietnam U16 futsal team will leave Thailand to return home, continue training and professional activities at their parent clubs, aiming for long-term goals in the process of developing Vietnamese youth futsal.
