On the afternoon of August 29, U16 Vietnam women's team defeated host U16 Indonesia women's team in the 3rd place match of the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Women's Championship after a series of dramatic penalty shootouts.

Before the third-place match, coach Akira Okiyama said that the Vietnam U16 women's team had accumulated a lot of experience after matches, especially the courage to play away. He affirmed that the confrontation with host Indonesia was an opportunity for the players to show their determination to win medals.

In this match, coach Okiyama made some tactical changes. Nguyen Thi Linh Chi was pushed up to play in the midfielder position, combined with defender Ngo Hai Yen and central defender Truong Thi Thao Nguyen on the left wing. In attack, Trinh Yen Nhi was the first female striker.

Vietnam U16 women's team entered the match confidently despite great pressure from the Indonesian audience. In the 3rd minute, Ngoc Anh suddenly attacked and scored the opening goal with a score of 1-0. However, in the 15th minute, the home team equalized 1-1 with a goal by Nafeez. This score was kept unchanged until the end of the first half.

In the second half, coach Okiyama increased the attack personnel when sending Minh Anh, Ha Yen Nhi, Le Thi Hong Thai and Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh onto the field. However, Indonesia's solid defense prevented the U16 Vietnam women's team from scoring more goals, forcing the match to be decided by a penalty shootout.

On the 11m mark, the U16 Vietnamese women's players competed bravely and won 7-6, thereby closing the tournament in 3rd place.
