Be careful
The 33rd SEA Games volleyball (home) will have 7 men's teams and 8 women's teams participating. The Vietnam women's volleyball team received the target of winning the No. 1 position at the congress while the men's team strived for medals.
In many times attending the Southeast Asian Games, the Vietnamese men's and women's volleyball teams have not always completed their achievement targets. Through some recent times, volleyball managers and professionals have had to learn from the experience of the national teams twice.
At the 29th SEA Games in 2017 in Malaysia, the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team lost the semi-final match and only won the Bronze Medal. At that time, the team's goal was to reach the final. At the 30th SEA Games in 2019 in the Philippines, the Vietnam Men's Volleyball Team ranked 5th despite the goal of winning a medal.
Coaches Nguyen Tuan Kiet (women's team) and Tran Dinh Tien (men's team) will take on the role of head coaches after the 31st SEA Games. Each person has a lot of experience in coaching and leading the national volleyball team to achieve valuable results.
At the 32nd SEA Games in 2023 in Cambodia, the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team entered the final and won the Silver Medal while the Vietnam Men's Volleyball Team defeated Thailand in the Third place match, receiving the Bronze Medal.
This year, the two teams have trained and completed international missions in the first phase. All have returned to phase 2 training since October 25.
After finishing his mission in the first phase, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet once told the press: "After that, the coaching staff of the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team will learn more experience to continue to find the best professional options for the team when returning to coaching in the second phase. Each player also gains experience through the tournaments they participate in.
Closing the 2025 SEA V.League, coach Tran Dinh Tien also expressed: "The players have accumulated their expertise through a number of international tournaments. We will learn from experience to improve each position when the team trains in the second phase towards the 33rd SEA Games.
Deciding factors
To train for the 33rd SEA Games, the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team has 20 players and the men's team has 18 players. In theory, each coaching staff will select players from the training session to register for the official list of 14 athletes going to Thailand.
Each coach has had to shape his own key players. The results of international tournaments in early 2025 and the 2025 National Championship have been the basis for the head coaches to soon orient the important faces of the team.
Experts grasp that the training period is now the decisive moment for each team to practice tactics to create a unified block when competing.
General Secretary of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation - Mr. Le Tri Truong once said that the two coaches Nguyen Tuan Kiet and Tran Dinh Tien take on the responsibility of head coaches in which they have full authority to decide on the professional skills and select players to ensure the assigned tasks.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen is not focusing on the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team preparing for the 33rd SEA Games due to injury. The ability of the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team to compete for achievements at the 33rd SEA Games will certainly be affected. Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet is forced to find a replacement for Bich Tuyen, however, not every player is as outstanding as this former player.
For the Vietnam Men's Volleyball Team, the coaching staff still looks for a player who plays a leader role and helps the team feel better if they fall into difficult times.
At the 32nd SEA Games, Tu Thanh Thuan did this well and won the Bronze Medal with her teammates. Now, this player is no longer a national player, so the responsibility of the leader is awaited by experts in the performance of Pham Van Hiep or Quan Trong Nghia.
