On the morning of April 6, at the VFF headquarters, a contract extension signing ceremony took place between the two sides with the participation of General Secretary Nguyen Van Phu and representatives of the National Team Department and related functional units.
According to the signed content, the contract extension continues to affirm VFF's trust in the Korean expert in his role in charge of training goalkeepers for the national team and U23 Vietnam.
Speaking at the ceremony, General Secretary Nguyen Van Phu acknowledged and highly appreciated the contributions of coach Lee Woon-jae to the outstanding achievements of Vietnamese football in the past time such as the ASEAN Cup 2024 championship, winning the right to participate in the Asian Cup 2027 finals, SEA Games 33 gold medal and U23 Asian Championship 2026 bronze medal. VFF leaders believe that he will continue to promote professional capacity and make effective contributions to the goals of the team in the coming time.
Speaking at the ceremony, coach Lee Woon-jae expressed his gratitude for the trust of VFF leaders, and affirmed that he will continue to closely coordinate with head coach Kim Sang-sik and the coaching staff to complete the assigned tasks.
Born in 1973, Lee Woon-jae is one of the outstanding goalkeepers of Korean football, having worn the national team jersey 133 times and participated in 4 World Cups in 1994, 2002, 2006 and 2010. Among them, the outstanding mark is his fourth place at the 2002 World Cup and two third places at the Asian Cup in 2000 and 2007.
At the club level, he mainly played for Suwon Samsung Bluewings and Jeonnam Dragons with a total of 451 appearances, winning the AFC Champions League 2001-2002 and many domestic titles in South Korea.
Coach Lee Woon-jae joined the coaching staff of the Vietnamese national team from the preparation stage for the ASEAN Cup 2024. After the success at this tournament, he officially signed a contract with VFF in March 2025 and continues to accompany national teams to this day.
