According to Spanish media, in the early morning of August 1 (local time), kickboxing fighters Moises Baute and Jonathan Martin - nightclub guards voluntarily went to present themselves at the Tres de Mayo police station in the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Spain).
Both were accused of being involved in the death of Manuel Alberto Gonzalez Padron, 34, a resident of the El Cardonal area of La Laguna city. The victim's body was carried by 2 suspects on the back seat of a car to the police station.
According to the initial investigation, the victim showed signs of brutal murder and died about 8 hours before being taken to the authorities. The victim's girlfriend reported his disappearance to the police on the afternoon of July 30, after knowing he was planning to meet Moises Baute.
Moises Baute and Jonathan Martin were involved in drug trafficking and violence in Tenerife.
Notably, another man is also being treated at the hospital, suspected of being assaulted by the two suspects. The police do not rule out the possibility that this is a payment case related to a conflict in drug activities.
However, other assumptions are also being investigated in parallel, while waiting for the results of forensic assessments and other legal evidence.
Police sources said that the two suspects are likely to surrender following the advice of a lawyer to enjoy mitigating circumstances. Moises Baute was the first to report, and a few hours later, Jonathan Martin also appeared at the police station.
Moises Baute, born in 1984, is a famous heavyweight boxer in the Canary Islands. He was the 2019 Enfusion World Championship in the under 95kg category.
In addition to competing, Baute is also said to have been in contact with a private company that specializes in carrying out illegal enforcement cases in the Canary. He also has a long history of criminal records, including drug trafficking cases, threats and obstructions of justice.
Most recently, in 2023, Baute was sentenced to 2 and a half years in prison in the "Satyani case" for threatening a businessman to force him to withdraw a lawsuit related to a real estate dispute worth nearly 1 million euros.
