Today (October 25), in Bangkok, Thailand, the Southeast Asian Sports Federation and the Thai host organizing committee of the 33rd SEA Games in 2025 held a meeting and finalized the main contents.
Next year’s Games will feature 44 sports with 567 medal sets. The events and the number of medal sets are subject to change as the official date for the 33rd SEA Games is December 2025.
Notably, Vovinam martial art, although officially present at the 31st and 32nd SEA Games, will be absent from the 33rd SEA Games because it was not included in the competition program by the host organization, Thailand.
At today's meeting, the Vietnamese sports representative once again proposed to include Vovinam in the official competition program of the 33rd SEA Games but was unsuccessful. The host country, Thailand, apologized for not agreeing with Vietnam's proposal due to insufficient conditions and funding for the organization.
Previously, at the 32nd SEA Games, the Cambodian Vovinam team won 10 gold medals, Vietnam won 7 gold medals and Thailand won 5 gold medals when the events of this Congress were concluded.
At the 31st SEA Games, Vovinam won 15 sets of medals and had the participation of delegations from Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines.
The 33rd SEA Games will be held in Bangkok, Chonburi and Songkhla in December 2025. It is expected that the organizing committee will charge each participant a fee of 50 USD/person/day for the competition time at the next Games.
