WTI oil price was at 71.11 USD/barrel, down 2.1 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 2.87%. Brent oil was at 74.67 USD/barrel, down 2.32 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 3.01%.
Oil prices continued to fall in Wednesday's trading session as concerns about the risk of supply disruption cooled down, while investors watched developments in the Strait of Hormuz - the world's most important shipping route. The drop in oil prices reflects market sentiment increasingly optimistic that the risk of supply disruption in the Middle East is decreasing.
The oil market is shifting its focus from the risk of supply disruption in the Middle East to the prospect of additional supply from Iran. In the short term, developments will mainly depend on the progress of US-Iran negotiations and the rate of recovery of Iran's oil exports under the mechanism of temporary sanctions immunity. The current trend shows that downward pressure still prevails as the risk of supply disruption continues to cool down.
