At 4:40 PM on August 31, 2026, world oil prices simultaneously reversed to increase. Accordingly, WTI oil price was at 86.17 USD/barrel, up 2.77 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 3.32%. Brent oil was at 91.23 USD/barrel, up 5.11 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 5.93%. Last week, world oil prices fell sharply. In which, WTI oil price decreased by 4.2%, Brent oil price decreased by 4.93%.
Oil prices rose on Monday after the US attacked an Iranian island in the Strait of Hormuz and Tehran announced retaliation, as the conflict between the two sides dragged on to the sixth month.
In the short term, oil prices are likely to fluctuate sharply according to developments in US-Iran relations, especially the traffic flow through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the world gasoline and oil market in this operating period is affected by key factors such as: US economic pressure on Iran; Iran and Oman exchanging and discussing details of agreements related to controlling the Ormuz Strait; military conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues, continuing to focus heavily on energy facilities, oil refineries... The above factors have caused world finished gasoline and oil prices in recent days to increase and decrease depending on the item.
The selling prices of popular consumer gasoline and oil items in the domestic market in the operating period on August 31 are as follows:
- E5 RON92 gasoline: not higher than 21,763 VND/liter, lower than E10RON95-III gasoline by 839 VND/liter;
- E10 RON95-III gasoline: not higher than 22,602 VND/liter;
- Diesel oil 0.05S: not higher than 28,084 VND/liter;
- 180CST 3.5S fuel oil: not higher than 18,140 VND/kg.

Gasoline and oil prices in Vietnam are currently low compared to many countries in the region.
