New Year's Day Meal
According to reporters at traditional markets such as Xuan Khanh, Tan An (Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city), the buying and selling atmosphere is quite bustling.
Taking advantage of going to the market very early to prepare for the family's New Year's Day meal, Ms. Tran Phi Nhung (Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city) shared that she bought a lot of food from beef, seafood to green vegetables and fruits at prices not much different from normal.
Along with shopping for food, Ms. Nhung looked up the prices of some Tet cakes and jams displayed at the stalls.
Fresh and diverse food is what Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lan (Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city) commented when going to Tan An market this morning. Changing the taste of Tet for her family, Ms. Lan mainly chooses to buy seafood such as squid, shrimp, and fish balls to cook.
“Taking advantage of the break, I want to cook a delicious meal to treat my husband and children. Except for seafood and pork, which have increased slightly by 5,000 - 10,000 VND/kg, other vegetables, tubers and essential goods are stable,” said Ms. Lan.
Purchasing power is increasing gradually.
To meet the increasing shopping needs of people, traditional market traders in Can Tho city have carefully prepared goods.
Trader Tran Thi Hai (Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city) said that for the past week, purchasing power has tended to increase and on New Year's Day, the amount of vegetables and tubers consumed is estimated to be 30% higher than usual.
“Prices are relatively stable, only some types of vegetables and fruits imported from Da Lat have increased by 3,000 - 5,000 VND/kg. Currently, my stall has started ordering vegetables and fruits to supply the Tet market. It is expected that purchasing power from now until Tet will continue to increase, the peak will start from the day of sending Ong Tao to heaven every year,” Ms. Hai shared.
To meet the shopping demand during Tet, trader Nguyen Ngoc Han (Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city) has increased the amount of imported food since mid-December. According to Ms. Han, at this time, pork products have not fluctuated much compared to previous years. Pork leg meat ranges from 115,000 - 125,000 VND/kg, pork belly from 140,000 - 160,000 VND/kg, baby back ribs from 190,000 - 210,000 VND/kg, etc.
“The price has increased a little but is still suitable for consumers’ budget. I hope that the first day will start smoothly so that I will receive support like this all year round,” Ms. Han said.
Regarding the work of ensuring goods during Tet, Mr. Ha Vu Son - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Can Tho City previously requested the City Market Management Department to closely coordinate with the Department of Industry and Trade to prevent counterfeit goods, fake goods, and poor quality goods, especially for essential goods serving the New Year and Lunar New Year 2025.
In order to stabilize prices, ensure supply and demand of goods, and meet people's needs for essential goods at the end of 2024 and Lunar New Year 2025, the People's Committee of Can Tho City has issued a Decision on promulgating a Program to stabilize the market of essential goods, promote trade activities in 2024 and Lunar New Year 2025 in the city. The program is divided into 2 phases with groups of food and foodstuffs; groups serving the needs of Lunar New Year; household consumer products, etc.
