As of 11:30 a.m. today (January 19), domestic coffee was still trading at 118,300 - 119,500 VND/kg. The average coffee purchase price in the Central Highlands provinces at the end of the week fell to 119,400 VND/kg.
At the end of the week, the domestic coffee market remained stable in Lam Dong but increased by 200-400 VND/kg in other regions.
On the London and New York exchanges, the coffee market moved in the same direction for all terms. On the London Robusta coffee exchange, coffee prices reversed sharply, reaching a peak of 5,000 USD/ton. The contract for delivery in March 2025 increased by 2.39% (equivalent to 117 USD/ton), reaching 5,006 USD/ton. In the same direction, the contract for delivery in May 2025 increased by more than 2% (equivalent to 116 USD/ton), anchoring at 4,962 USD/ton.
Similarly, the New York Arabica coffee market continued its strong increase. The March 2025 and May 2025 delivery periods both increased by nearly 1%, reaching the market at 328.35 cents/lb and 324.60 cents/lb.
Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on January 20 (local time) in Washington DC. The Arabica exchange is also scheduled to close on this day, next Monday. Coffee exchanges in particular and the financial market in general are eagerly awaiting the next steps when the US has a new President.
According to USDA forecasts, global coffee production in the 2024-2025 crop year is estimated at 174.9 million 60-kg bags, up 6.9 million bags from the 2023-2024 crop year, mainly due to production recovery in Vietnam and Indonesia. At the same time, global consumption is expected to increase by 5.1 million bags with the largest increases in the European Union (EU), the United States and China.
