As of 11:30 a.m. today (January 3), the domestic coffee market has unexpectedly reversed and increased by an average of VND2,600/kg per session, with the current purchase price fluctuating between VND121,300 - VND122,200/kg. The average coffee purchase price in the Central Highlands provinces today is VND122,000/kg.
Lam Dong is still the province with the lowest coffee purchasing price in the Central Highlands, with a difference of about 700 VND/kg compared to the average price. Compared to the closing price at the end of last week, coffee prices in this region increased the second most, up to 2,600 VND/kg, reaching the market price of 121,300 VND/kg.
Purchasing at a price higher than 600 VND/kg, the coffee price in Dak Lak province today increased by 2,500 VND/kg, reaching 122,000 VND/kg. In the same direction, the coffee price in Gia Lai province recorded a large fluctuation compared to the previous trading session, setting the mark of 121,900 VND/kg.

On the London and New York exchanges, the coffee market moved in the same direction across all terms. On the London Robusta Coffee Exchange, coffee prices jumped, ending a series of days of "stagnant" status, approaching the $5,000/ton mark. Contracts for delivery in March 2025 and May 2025 both increased by nearly 4%, listed at $5,056/ton and $4,977/ton, respectively.
Similarly, the New York Arabica coffee market recorded a big change. The March 2025 and May 2025 delivery terms were fixed at 326.85 cents/lb and 322.10 cents/lb, up nearly 3%.
Coffee prices increased to three digits on the first trading day of the year, showing that the forecast for future coffee prices will remain high. The reason why coffee prices can reach a peak is due to scarce supply and difficulties in import and export.
However, the sharp increase in coffee prices has benefited the Vietnamese market as the harvest of homegrown farmers is almost complete. Therefore, the Vietnamese market has a supply to bring to the market.
In the world market, Brazil is the leading coffee producer and exporter with an overwhelming market share. Each year, this country exports up to 2.58 million tons, higher than the two adjacent export markets, Vietnam and Colombia, which are 1.63 million tons and 0.77 million tons respectively, for a total of only 2.4 million tons. Meanwhile, Brazil has finished its crop, and will have to wait until May 2025 for a new crop, especially according to experts, the next season may be a bad crop.
