As of 11:30 a.m. today (January 1), the domestic coffee market continued to decline, down an average of VND900/kg, with the current purchase price fluctuating between VND118,700 - VND119,500/kg. The average coffee purchase price in the Central Highlands provinces today is VND119,400/kg.
Lam Dong is still the province with the lowest coffee purchasing price in the Central Highlands, with a difference of about 700 VND/kg compared to the average price. Compared to the closing price at the end of last week, coffee prices in this region have dropped the most by 1,000 VND/kg, reaching the market price of 118,700 VND/kg.
Purchasing at a price 700 VND/kg higher, coffee prices in Gia Lai and Dak Lak provinces today also simultaneously dropped 900 VND/kg, down to 119,400 VND/kg.
Notably, Dak Nong province is still ranked first among the provinces and cities with the highest coffee purchasing price in the country, despite a decrease of 1,000 VND/kg, setting the mark at 119,500 VND/kg.
On the London and New York exchanges, the coffee market moved in the same direction across all terms. On the London Robusta Coffee Exchange, coffee prices remained red, moving away from the $5,000/ton mark. The contract for delivery in March 2025 fell nearly 1% (equivalent to $46/ton), trading at $4,875/ton. The contract for delivery in May 2025 fell 1.03% (equivalent to $50/ton), listed at $4,805/ton.
Meanwhile, the situation in the New York Arabica coffee market has been volatile. The March 2025 and May 2025 delivery periods have both dropped nearly 1%, currently hovering at 319.75 cents/lb and 314.85 cents/lb.
Coffee in particular and the commodity market in general witnessed a quiet trading session and continued to slightly decrease during the holiday season.
However, for the whole of 2024, coffee is the commodity with the strongest price increase for the second consecutive year due to the global supply shortage. The price of Robusta coffee futures contract for March 2025 ended 2024 with an increase of more than 70%. After 1 year, Robusta coffee increased to 4,875 USD/ton, Arabica increased to 319.75 cents/lb.
Domestically, coffee prices reached an all-time high of over VND130,000/kg. The high prices also made export activities have a brilliant year.
According to the General Department of Customs, coffee exports reached 5.2 billion USD as of mid-December. This is the first time in the history of the Vietnamese coffee industry that coffee exports have exceeded the 5 billion USD mark in a year. High prices have made farmers excited and expect continued success in 2025.
