The North
In the North, the price of live pigs remains stable, ranging from 71,000 - 73,000 VND/kg. Provinces such as Bac Giang, Hanoi, Hung Yen, Hai Duong and Thai Binh recorded the highest prices in the region, reaching 73,000 VND/kg.
Central - Central Highlands
The Central - Central Highlands region witnessed a slight increase in the price of live pigs, with Lam Dong and Binh Thuan reaching 77,000 VND/kg, while Dak Lak and Ninh Thuan were at 75,000 VND/kg. Other localities in the region maintain purchasing prices from 71,000 - 75,000 VND/kg.
Southern region
The Southern pig market continues to increase rapidly, with the highest price reaching 78,000 VND/kg in Dong Nai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Vinh Long and Ben Tre provinces. Other localities also adjusted the price up from 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg, bringing the purchasing price in the region to 76,800 VND/kg.

Causes and predictions
According to livestock experts, the main reason for the sharp increase in pig prices is due to local supply shortages, while consumption demand has not fluctuated significantly after the Tet holiday.
It is forecasted that the price of live pigs may exceed 80,000 VND/kg in the coming time, but it is unlikely to increase because the price difference between domestic and imported pork is at 20,000 VND/kg, creating conditions for imported pork to flood into the market.
In another development, African swine fever is complicated in Ha Tinh, with 4 localities including Cam Xuyen, Thach Ha, Ha Tinh city and Huong Khe district recording outbreaks. Since the Lunar New Year, more than 300 pigs have been destroyed due to infection. The functional sector and local authorities are focusing on implementing measures to prevent and limit the widespread spread of the epidemic.
The increase in live pig prices along with the complicated developments of African swine fever poses a major challenge for the livestock industry and consumers in the coming time.
