Domestic pepper prices: Week with slight decrease
Today (April 26), domestic pepper prices traded in the range of 138,000 - 142,000 VND/kg, averaging a slight decrease of 100 VND/kg compared to the previous week.
At the end of last week, pepper prices in Dak Lak remained unchanged at 141,000 VND/kg, while Lam Dong increased by 1,000 VND/kg after 1 week, reaching 142,000 VND/kg.
Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City diễn biến theo xu hướng đi ngang, neo tại ngưỡng 140,000 VND/kg.
Meanwhile, Gia Lai recorded a sharp decrease of 1,500 VND/kg, down to 138,000 VND/kg.
World pepper prices: Sideways trend
According to the International Pepper Association (IPC), pepper prices in countries remained unchanged, except for Indonesia, which continued to decline compared to the closing session of the previous week.
Indonesian black pepper closed last week at 7,007 USD/ton, down 36 USD/ton compared to the previous week. Indonesian white pepper price recorded a decrease of 48 USD/ton, reaching 9,231 USD/ton.
Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 last week went sideways, listed at 6,000 USD/ton. Similarly, white pepper prices went sideways at 9,300 USD/ton and 12,200 USD/ton.
In Vietnam, the export price of black pepper fluctuates in the range of 6,100 - 6,200 USD/ton for types 500 g/l and 550 g/l. The price of white pepper in Vietnam is flat, setting the mark of 9,000 USD/ton.
Assessments and forecasts
After a slight increase last week, the domestic pepper market this week recorded a downward adjustment trend, with a small amplitude but clearly reflecting the stagnation of short-term demand.
Pepper prices increased sharply at the beginning of the week, reaching a peak of 141,400 VND/kg, then gradually decreased and stabilized from April 23, standing still at 140,200 VND/kg. This development mainly stems from selling pressure from traders when prices have reached the expected level, while post-harvest supply is still present in the market. However, the small decrease shows that the price base is still being maintained, reflecting the balance between supply and demand.
