Saigon Newport Corporation said that in the first week of Lunar New Year 2025, Tan Cang - Cat Lai port welcomed 76 cargo ships, with a throughput of 110,000 TEUs, equivalent to more than 1.5 million tons of goods (an increase of 9% compared to Tet 2024). Notably, on New Year's Eve 2025, the port received 7 container ships, with a total handling capacity of nearly 10,000 TEUs, equivalent to about 140,000 tons of goods.
The first container after the order was issued was loaded onto the CNC CHEETAH ship of CMA-CGM, with a load capacity of 39,000 tons and a capacity of nearly 2,900 TEUs. This ship traveled from Cat Lai (Vietnam) to Shekou, Dalian, Ningbo (China). The first goods loaded onto the ship were electronic products, a key export item that helped Ho Chi Minh City achieve a turnover of more than 46 billion USD last year.
Mr. Ngo Minh Thuan - General Director of Saigon Newport Corporation - emphasized the plan to develop the scale and stature of the Corporation in 2025, considering this a golden opportunity to expand business investment beyond the three traditional pillars: port exploitation, logistics and transport services and marine economic sectors.
Two new business pillars have been identified, including investment in industrial parks and island tourism services, along with offshore renewable energy development. The Corporation also aims to achieve basic economic targets including a 5% increase in revenue and profit, with the logistics pillar alone increasing by over 15% compared to 2024.
Attending the ceremony, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai highly appreciated the achievements and contributions of Tan Cang Saigon to the development of Ho Chi Minh City. The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee hopes that Tan Cang Saigon Corporation will continue to organize production and business effectively and safely, taking the lead in digital transformation and application of science and technology. At the same time, Tan Cang Saigon will continue to affirm its brand as a leading seaport enterprise in the domestic and international markets.
Ho Chi Minh City leaders said they will promote administrative reforms, creating a favorable investment and business environment for enterprises, including Saigon Newport Corporation, to develop in the coming time. In addition, they will effectively implement the project to develop the logistics industry in Ho Chi Minh City until 2030, creating an important foundation for the development of ports in Ho Chi Minh City.
Despite facing many challenges from the global economic situation, last year Saigon Newport Corporation still successfully completed its production and business plan 40 days ahead of schedule.
Total container throughput reached 10.81 million TEUs (up 10.1%), equivalent to nearly 160 million tons of cargo.
