On the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025, the Spring Flower Market at Tay Do Square and the Spring Flower Market at Cai Rang Floating Market (both in Cai Rang District, Can Tho City) are two locations that offer free rent, electricity, and water for people selling Tet flowers in Can Tho City and some provinces in the Mekong Delta.
According to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper on January 19, although there are still about 10 days left until Tet, the atmosphere at the Spring Flower Market in Tay Do Square is quite quiet. The number of buyers and sellers is sparse, and there are still empty lots.
Mr. Nguyen Tuan Hung (35 years old, a merchant from Ben Tre province) said that these days, people mainly come to see the prices, there are no orders yet. Today, he has only sold 5 out of 150 pots of bougainvillea on display.
"Flower prices have not changed much this year, but the Tet flower market is not as exciting as expected. I hope the number of buyers will increase in the coming days so that I can return home to celebrate Tet with my family," said Mr. Hung.
Ms. Truong Thi Mau (a trader from Vinh Long province) shared that she has currently displayed about 300 pots of ornamental flowers of various kinds, notably yellow apricot, tangerine and marigold.
"At this time, customers only come to look but don't buy much. I predict that after the ceremony to send off the Kitchen Gods (December 23), purchasing power will increase," Ms. Mau added.
Mr. Ha Vu Son - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Can Tho City - informed that the 2025 Spring Flower Market has a scale of over 200 lots displaying ornamental flowers, ornamental plants, bonsai of small traders, gardeners, and cooperatives in Can Tho City and some provinces in the Mekong Delta. This is the second year that the Can Tho Spring Flower Market has exempted rent, electricity, and water, creating conditions for businesses, small traders, and gardeners to participate in exchanging and trading during Tet.
Another note at the Spring Flower Market in Cai Rang Floating Market is that there are only about 5 lots selling ornamental flowers and plants, the rest are empty lots.
A flower vendor here said that his family sells chrysanthemums for Tet, but this year there are still not many customers, while by this time every year they have sold quite a lot.
Small traders and gardeners selling ornamental flowers still have faith in the upcoming days before Tet, hoping that the market will flourish and people will be excited to visit and buy ornamental flowers to celebrate Tet.
According to the People's Committee of Cai Rang District, the Spring Flower Market at Cai Rang Floating Market is expected to have over 30 display lots of ornamental flowers, ornamental plants, bonsai and some items to serve the Tet shopping needs. In particular, participating businesses, cooperatives, gardeners and households will be exempted from paying for premises, electricity and water.
In addition, this place also decorates booths selling typical products of the district, recreating Ong Do Street, historical sites, typical tourist attractions of the district, serving people and tourists to visit and take photos on the occasion of Tet holiday.
