Recorded at the Spring Flower Market area in Tay Do Square, Cai Rang District, Can Tho City, many businesses, traders, and gardeners in some provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta have begun transporting ornamental flowers, ornamental plants, bonsai... to display and invite visitors to serve the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025.
The atmosphere at Tay Do Square was bustling and vibrant. The vendors were busy arranging their goods and decorating their shipments harmoniously and attractively. People also began to flock to the flower market to visit, admire the flowers and buy them for their families.
This year's flower market brings together many types of ornamental flowers typical of the West such as chrysanthemums, marigolds, tangerines, yellow apricots, bougainvillea, bonsai, etc. Besides, there are also many unique types of flowers and ornamental plants brought from other provinces, creating diversity and richness for the flower market.
Sharing with Lao Dong, Ms. Truong Thi Mau (a gardener from Vinh Long province) said that this year she displayed 2 shipments at Can Tho Spring Flower Market with about 300 pots of ornamental flowers of all kinds, notably yellow apricot, tangerine and marigold.
Yellow apricot costs from 400,000 - 2 million VND/tree (depending on style and size), while tangerine ranges from 2 million - 3 million VND/pair.
“I am very happy because the flower market exempts the rent, electricity and water for small traders and gardeners. Last year, I also sold ornamental flowers here so I have experience. This year, I took advantage of the opportunity to put the goods on sale early, mainly to reserve beautiful, bright lots, right at the front for convenient buying and selling,” said Ms. Mau.
According to Ms. Mau, she had to travel by boat to transport goods from the island to the wharf in Vinh Long, then from Vinh Long she hired a car to transport them to Can Tho. With about 300 pots of ornamental flowers, she had to divide them into many trips, so the transportation cost was quite expensive.
“I see that the products at the flower market this year are diverse. I expect purchasing power to increase in the coming days, to compensate for the care and investment costs, transportation costs, and to have more money to celebrate Tet with my family,” Ms. Mau said with a smile.
As one of the traders who displayed their goods early, Ms. Le Thi Thanh Thuy (Cai Rang district, Can Tho city) said that since December 16, she has been there to display more than 200 pots of ornamental flowers, including marigolds, poinsettias, bonsai of all kinds... with the desire to keep the beautiful goods and attract many customers right from the first days of opening the flower market.
“I see that this year the flower market has more shipments than last year, the buying and selling atmosphere is bustling, especially many small traders and gardeners from Dong Thap, Vinh Long, Ben Tre provinces, etc. also transport goods here to sell, making the flower market more bustling, increasing competitiveness,” Ms. Thuy said excitedly.
Mr. Ha Vu Son - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Can Tho City - informed that the 2025 Spring Flower Market is arranged in a space of "on the wharf, under the boat", the functional sector has prepared the ground to facilitate both roads and waterways for people to conveniently transport and trade Tet flowers.
The Spring Flower Market has over 200 display lots of ornamental flowers, ornamental plants, and bonsai from small traders, gardeners, and cooperatives in Can Tho City and some provinces in the Mekong Delta. This is the second year that the Can Tho Spring Flower Market has exempted rent, electricity, and water, creating conditions for businesses, small traders, and gardeners to participate in exchanging and trading during Tet.
