5 bright spots of Vietnam - Guangxi (China) cooperation

The extensive and effective cooperation between Vietnam and Guangxi (China) has recently seen important and encouraging developments with five bright spots.

Within the framework of attending the 8th Greater Mekong Subregion Summit and working in China, on November 6, in Kunming city, Yunnan province, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Chairman of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, Mr. Lam Thien Lap.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the meeting, the two sides highly appreciated the important and encouraging developments in the extensive and effective cooperation between Vietnam and Guangxi in recent times with five bright spots in the fields of delegation exchanges at all levels, economic and trade cooperation, land border management cooperation, traffic connection, opening and upgrading of border gates and people-to-people exchange, in which Vietnam has been Guangxi's largest trade partner for 25 consecutive years.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hopes that in the coming time, the two sides will continue to focus on effectively implementing and concretizing high-level common perceptions; promote the Spring Meeting Program between Secretaries and the Joint Working Committee Conference between Guangxi and the provinces of Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Cao Bang, and Ha Giang; and coordinate in organizing exchange activities for the "Vietnam-China Humanitarian Exchange Year" 2025.

The Prime Minister proposed that the two sides cooperate in implementing standard gauge railway lines connecting Guangxi with Vietnam; successfully implement the pilot model of smart border gates; request Guangxi to continue facilitating the import of goods, especially Vietnamese agricultural products, into Guangxi, including the establishment of Inspection and Quarantine Stations; welcome Guangxi enterprises to expand investment in Vietnam, especially in the fields of green agriculture, clean energy, and sustainable development; promptly implement research and development of a pilot model of cross-border economic cooperation zones and cooperation in digital economy, electricity, and clean energy; continue to closely coordinate in border management; strengthen cooperation in law enforcement, immigration management, and cross-border crime prevention; promote upgrading and opening of pairs of border gates and openings on the land border that the two sides have agreed on; safely and effectively operate the Ban Gioc waterfall landscape area (Vietnam) - Detian (China).

Guangxi Chairman Lam Thien Lap affirmed his determination to promote cooperation between the two sides, expand and deepen friendly exchanges with Vietnamese localities, promote road and railway traffic connections, especially railway routes from Guangxi connecting with the Dong Dang - Hanoi and Mong Cai - Hai Phong railways; quickly pilot smart border gates and measures to facilitate customs clearance such as establishing inspection and quarantine stations for Vietnamese agricultural products; promote the special advantages of both sides to connect more deeply through Guangxi with mainland China, to third countries as well as through Vietnam connecting with ASEAN countries.

Chairman Lam Thien Lap hopes that the two sides will further expand the scale and improve the quality of trade and investment cooperation, improve customs clearance efficiency with the "smart border gate" model, deploy digital economic cooperation, electricity trading, strengthen border management, and cooperate in preventing cross-border crimes.
