India considers continuing to provide new defense support package for Vietnam

On May 19, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary and President To Lam received Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.

At the reception, General Secretary and President To Lam welcomed the visit of Minister Rajnath Singh; emphasizing that the visit has concretized the Comprehensive and Strengthened Strategic Partnership just agreed upon by the two countries.

General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed that Vietnam highly appreciates India's role and contributions to peace, stability and development in the region; always considers India as one of the top important partners, and supports India to continue to promote its greater role in the region and the world.

The General Secretary and President highly appreciated the practical cooperation results between the Ministries of National Defense of the two countries in the past time; requested the two sides to continue to fully and effectively implement the signed cooperation documents, bringing defense cooperation between the two countries into depth.

Minister Rajnath Singh said the visit took place immediately after the State visit to India by General Secretary and President To Lam, demonstrating the desire and strong commitment of the Indian Government to implement high-level agreements and promote relations between the two countries.

The Minister affirmed that Vietnam is one of the most important partners in India's "Action Towards the East" policy and regional relations development strategies; affirmed that India will continue to promote defense cooperation between the two countries, expand high-quality human resource training cooperation programs; committed to continuing to closely coordinate with Vietnam to complete ongoing cooperation projects within the framework of existing defense credit and support packages and consider continuing to provide new support packages suitable to the needs and capabilities of each party. The Minister also agreed to continue to coordinate with relevant ministries and sectors of India to further promote scientific and technological cooperation, strengthen aviation and maritime connectivity between the two countries.

The General Secretary, President and Minister of Defense of India emphasized that Vietnam and India have a common vision on world and regional issues; will continue to maintain delegation exchanges, promote dialogue mechanisms between the two countries, including the consultation mechanism between the two Ministries of Defense, strengthen information sharing, coordinate positions in regional and international issues and at multilateral forums, especially mechanisms led by ASEAN, such as the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting Expanded (ADMM +).
