On September 13, at the Temple of Remembrance for Heroic Martyrs and People with Meritorious Services to the Revolution of An Giang province, the An Giang Provincial Party Committee coordinated with Military Region 9 to organize the Ceremony to announce the Decision recognizing the Traditional Day of the Armed Forces of An Giang province (after merger) and posthumously award the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces (LLVT) to comrade Lam Kien Tri and martyr Huynh Van Thanh.
Attending the ceremony were leaders and former leaders of the Party and State; leaders of ministries, branches, localities, Military Region 9, An Giang province, People's Armed Forces Heroes, relatives of heroes and martyrs.
At the Ceremony, the Decision of the Commander of Military Region 9 was announced, recognizing September 10, 1945 as the Traditional Day of the People's Armed Forces of An Giang province and posthumously awarding the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces to comrade Lam Kien Tri and martyr Huynh Van Thanh for their particularly outstanding achievements and heroic sacrifices for the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.
On behalf of the Party and State leaders, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan expressed her sincere respect and deep gratitude to the heroic martyrs, generations of cadres, soldiers and compatriots who have contributed and sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, the peace and development of An Giang province.
Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan emphasized that An Giang and Kien Giang (formerly) are lands rich in historical, cultural and revolutionary traditions, the homeland of President Ton Duc Thang and many famous figures, patriots, and revolutionary predecessors; a place that converges the good qualities of the people of Nam Bo. After the merger, An Giang became the leading large-scale province in the country; has an important strategic position in socio-economic, national defense, security and foreign affairs; and has many favorable conditions for rapid and sustainable socio-economic development.
Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan requested An Giang to continue to promote the glorious revolutionary tradition of its homeland, determined to build a clean and strong Party Committee and political system; accelerate rapid and sustainable development; develop culture and society; do a good job of "Gratitude", taking care of people with meritorious services; ensure social security, and constantly improve the material and spiritual life of the people.
In particular, with a strategic position in national defense and security in the Southwest region, the province needs to focus on improving national defense and security potential, building revolutionary, regular, elite, and modern people's armed forces, meeting the requirements of protecting the Fatherland, protecting the sovereignty of land borders and national sea and islands in the new situation.
The Vice President expressed his belief that, with a solid foundation built with sweat, blood and effort of previous generations, along with potential, advantages and new development space, new determination, the Party Committee, government, armed forces and people of An Giang province will strive to build An Giang to develop quickly and sustainably, a fairly developed province of the whole country, a strong marine economic center of the nation, making worthy contributions to the cause of building and protecting the Fatherland in the new era of development.
