On January 16, the People's Committee of Ben Tre province held an inauguration ceremony for the restoration and embellishment of the Memorial Site of Female General Nguyen Thi Dinh located in Phong Dien hamlet, Luong Hoa commune, Giong Trom district, Ben Tre province.
Attending the inauguration ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet - former Politburo member, former President; Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan - former Politburo member, former National Assembly Chairwoman; General Le Hong Anh - former Politburo member, former Standing member of the Secretariat; Ms. Truong My Hoa - former Secretary of the Party Central Committee, former Vice President, and leaders of Ben Tre province.

The project to restore and embellish the Memorial Site of Female General Nguyen Thi Dinh was started on September 23, 2024, focusing on renovating the following items: temple, reception house, stele house, exhibition house, coconut house, fence gate, toilet, other auxiliary items... with a total investment of more than 13 billion VND.
Previously, in December 2003, the Memorial Site of Female General Nguyen Thi Dinh was put into operation, including items: stele house, temple, exhibition room, documentary film screening room, rest house, her working house... with a total area of 15,000m2. After more than 20 years of exploitation and service, some items at the memorial site have degraded, the infrastructure is not synchronous and does not meet the current demand for sightseeing and visiting.

After the inauguration ceremony, the project will connect with other relics in the province such as: Nguyen Ngoc Thang Relic, Binh Hoa Communal House Architectural Relic, Nguyen Van Trac House Relic, Nguyen Dinh Chieu Tomb and Memorial Site, etc., contributing to enriching the system of cultural and memorial destinations combined with sightseeing in the province and gradually promoting local economic development, improving the material and spiritual life of the people.
Female General Nguyen Thi Dinh was born on March 15, 1920 in Luong Hoa commune, in a farming family with a rich tradition of patriotism.
She joined the revolution at the age of 16. Her name is associated with the Ben Tre Dong Khoi (January 17, 1960). In mid-1961, she was transferred to work at the Southern Command. In 1965, she was promoted to the rank of Major General of the Vietnam People's Army and was assigned to hold the position of Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Liberation Army of South Vietnam until 1975 - and was the first female general of the Vietnam People's Army, an outstanding daughter of her hometown Ben Tre Dong Khoi.
After the complete liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, she was assigned by the Party and State to hold many important positions: Deputy Minister of the Ministry of War Invalids and Social Affairs; President of the Vietnam Women's Union; Vice President of the State Council; National Assembly Delegate for many terms. She passed away on August 26, 1992, in the infinite sorrow of the Party, State, people and friends around the world. On August 30, 1995, Female General Nguyen Thi Dinh was posthumously awarded the title "Hero of the People's Armed Forces" by the State.
