Ministry of Home Affairs proposes a single day off on Vietnam Culture Day

The Ministry of Home Affairs proposed to add the option of taking a 1-day break from Vietnam Culture Day, on November 24, 26 and not to exchange working days.

According to regulations, employees are entitled to leave work and receive full salary on Vietnam Culture Day. In 2026, November 24 falls on Tuesday.

In the supplementary submission, based on receiving comments and reviewing actual requirements, the Ministry of Home Affairs proposed a plan to take exactly 1 day off on Tuesday, November 24, without exchanging more working days.

Previously, in the process of developing the holiday schedule, the Ministry of Home Affairs researched a plan to swap the second working day, November 23rd, to Saturday, November 28th, thereby forming a 4-day consecutive holiday from November 21st to the end of November 24th. This plan aims to create a continuous time fund for people to participate in cultural, family, community, tourism and service activities.

However, through the process of collecting opinions and continuing to review, the Ministry of Home Affairs proposed to supplement the option of only taking 1 day off on Vietnam Culture Day, November 24, without exchanging. This arrangement does not give rise to adjustments to the working days of agencies and units, while still ensuring the right to full-time leave and the goals and meaning of Vietnam Culture Day.

One of the factors being considered is the end of November, when agencies and units focus on completing the annual work program and plan; many businesses also accelerate production and delivery progress, complete business plans and prepare for the following year. Taking leave on November 24, without changing working days, contributes to limiting disruption of work schedule, production, and business in this period.

The 1-day break plan aims to ensure harmony between creating conditions for people to participate and enjoy cultural activities and the requirement to maintain the normal operation of state agencies, businesses and the economy.

The meaning of Vietnam Culture Day lies not only in the length of the holiday but also in the quality of the activities organized, the ability to access and the actual level of participation of people. A well-prepared holiday with many activities at museums, libraries, theaters, relics, cultural, sports and community spaces can create a widespread and long-term social spread.

Not swapping working days also helps limit disruption of work schedules and maintain the continuity of production, business, and public service activities, while still dedicating the entire day of November 24th for people to participate in activities in response to Vietnam Culture Day.
