At the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, Lao Foreign Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane paid an official visit to Vietnam from February 12-14, 2025.

The first official visit to Vietnam is also the first foreign trip of Lao Foreign Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane after assuming his new position in November 2024.

The special relationship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos have become increasingly deeper, more practical and effective in recent times, contributing significantly to maintaining political stability, ensuring national defense and security and socio-economic development in each country, while actively contributing to peace, cooperation and development in the region.

In December 2024, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son and Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavanh Phomvihane co-chaired the 11th Vietnam - Laos Foreign Ministers' Political Consultation, during which they had in-depth discussions on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
