On the afternoon of January 8, at the Presidential Palace, President Luong Cuong received Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Overseas Vietnamese of the Republic of Togo Robert Dussey, who is on an official visit to Vietnam from January 8-10.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Luong Cuong emphasized that Vietnam always values and wishes to further deepen cooperative relations with African friends, including the Republic of Togo.
The President suggested that the two sides coordinate to implement measures to further deepen bilateral relations, especially increasing delegation exchanges and contacts at high and all levels to strengthen political trust, creating a solid foundation to promote cooperation in all fields; and enhancing coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums, regional and international organizations.
Emphasizing that the two countries need to identify economy as a priority area of cooperation, the President suggested that both sides increase the exchange of opportunities to promote cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, agriculture, mining, telecommunications, etc.
Regarding investment, based on the success of overseas investment projects of Vietnamese enterprises such as Viettel Group and Vietnam National Energy Group, the President asked Togo to provide information on investment opportunities and offer preferential policies for Vietnamese enterprises to study investment in Togo.
Regarding agricultural cooperation, with experience in implementing many successful tripartite agricultural cooperation projects in Africa, including Togo, and in its role as one of the world's leading agricultural exporters, Vietnam is ready to coordinate with Togo to implement cooperation projects on sharing experiences, transferring technology, and providing experts in the agricultural sector.
Togolese Foreign Minister Robert Dussey emphasized that Vietnam and Togo currently share a common vision on the path of national development, social stability, and improving people's lives.
The Minister affirmed that Togo always admires and supports Vietnam, considers Vietnam one of the top priority partners in Asia, and wishes to learn development experience and strengthen multi-faceted cooperation with Vietnam.
Regarding the President's proposals to promote bilateral cooperation, Minister Robert Dussey affirmed that the visit to Vietnam is not only meaningful to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations but also to promote cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, agriculture, seaports, etc. Minister Togo pledged to actively coordinate and exchange with relevant ministries, branches and agencies of Vietnam to promote cooperation between the two countries in the coming time.
President Luong Cuong took the time to share with Togo some lessons and experiences of Vietnam in the past struggle for national liberation and current socio-economic development.
