On September 19, at the headquarters of the Malaysian Senate, Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man held talks with President of the Malaysian Senate Dato Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides discussed law-making work. National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man informed about the amendment of the Constitution, law making, the streamlining of the apparatus, merging provinces and two-level governments in Vietnam.
The two sides appreciated the strong development and close ties between the two countries over the past 50 years, in which the relationship was upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in October 2024. In the context of many fluctuations in the world's political and economic situation, the two sides agreed to continue to support and make further efforts to promote the implementation of the cooperation directions set out by both sides, including enhancing political trust, promoting delegation exchanges, high-level contacts and all levels, expanding economic, trade and investment cooperation, removing some legal bottlenecks to facilitate Malaysian investors to increase investment in Vietnam, develop Halal industry as well as coordinate in resolving the IUU issue, and enhance people-to-people exchanges.
The two sides affirmed that they will continue to strengthen cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries through promoting delegation exchanges and contacts at high and all levels; enhancing cooperation, exchanges and sharing experiences, especially between the National Assembly's professional committees, groups of Friendship Parliamentarians, female lawmakers and young parliamentarians on building and perfecting a legal framework suitable for the new development stage of bilateral relations.
The two sides will coordinate to effectively monitor bilateral agreements, especially the development of an Action Program to implement the Vietnam - Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, including the content of inter-parliamentary cooperation.
Chairman Tran Thanh Man suggested that Malaysia create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community living and working in Malaysia as well as treat Vietnamese fishing vessels and fishermen in a humane spirit.
The President of the Malaysian Senate thanked the Vietnamese National Assembly for its support and assistance to the Malaysian Parliament during the 46th term of AIPA Chairmanship in particular and Malaysia's role as ASEAN Chair 2025 in general.
The two sides agreed to work with ASEAN countries to build a united, inclusive and self-reliant ASEAN, promoting ASEAN's central role, especially in the East Sea issue, contributing to peace, stability and development in the region and the world.
On the same day, President of the Malaysian Senate Dato Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah presided over a solemn reception to welcome National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and his wife and the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly.
