Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed their delight at witnessing the friendly and cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Malaysia with many positive and substantial developments with the milestone of upgrading the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Bilateral trade turnover in the first 7 months of 2025 reached 9.23 billion USD, up 8% over the same period in 2024; people-to-people exchanges are increasingly tight; cooperation between the Vietnam National Power - Industry Group (PVN) and the Malaysia National Oil and Gas Group (Petronas) has become a symbol of effective cooperation between the two countries.
Discussing measures to promote bilateral relations in the coming time, the two leaders agreed to continue to strengthen political trust through exchanges of high-level delegations and at all levels; enhance trade and investment cooperation, towards the goal of 18 billion USD in a balanced manner; promote cooperation in the fields of energy, oil and gas, science - technology, digital transformation, innovation, artificial intelligence, fishing, Halal industry, as well as actively participate in ASEAN Power Grid (APG) projects.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man emphasized that the two sides should soon approve the Action Program to implement the Vietnam - Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the period 2025-2030 and actively implement green energy projects and tripartite cooperation on renewable energy exports from Vietnam to Malaysia and Singapore.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim thanked Vietnam for its support and active contributions to Malaysia in its role as ASEAN Chair 2025 and AIPA 46 Chair; highly appreciated the close cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries in recent times and believed that parliamentary channel cooperation will continue to be enhanced.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man congratulated Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in particular and Malaysia in general on their position as ASEAN Chair 2025 with many outstanding marks.
The 46th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) is also being successfully held with the message of building a peaceful ASEAN Community, high economic growth and many important documents to be adopted; affirming that the Vietnamese National Assembly will closely coordinate and accompany the Malaysian Parliament and the parliaments of other countries to continue promoting the role of AIPA in promoting regional linkages and connectivity, raising the voice of the people, enhancing exchanges between peoples as well as promoting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
